Taken 18 July, 2010 Nellore Dist.
The Ongole Oxen (Burri) and the Nellore (Nelle') paddy fields, both of which are synonymous to Nellore. Nelle' means paddy and Nellore is the rice bowl of Andhra.
Mollagolukulu, a variety Nellore was famous for, now has no takers. Most rice varieties tend to lose their taste and quality over time, but Molagolukulu’s taste, aroma and its ability to remain unspoiled even 24 hours after cooking had made it the most sought after rice. People prefer small and fine grained Sona and Jilakara masoori that look good on the plate.
