Calliandra haematocephala. Powder-puff, Fairy Duster, a sub-tropical plant the family, native to India, Mexico, Madagascar, South America and the United States, is grown as a hedge or shrub in the landscape for its powder-puff-type flowers which are very attractive to hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. Derived from the Greek words "kallos" (beauty) and "andros" (stamens), flowers of Calliandra can breathe life into any dormant landscapes and are like miniature pink fireworks detonating in a sea of deep-green leaves.
