Imprinting Memories

Taken on 19 October, 2010 on the Kabini River, Karnataka.

We were getting late. We wanted to reach  Nellore, about 500 km away, before the sun set. The younger one was adamant that he needed to go boating one last time. The fog was thick over the river and we were glittery about letting them go. Eventually, they went out donning the gray safety jackets and very soon were almost invisible from the banks. My husband whistled for them to come back, they did, but the ride back and the events that followed, had us in splits! They came in little tight circles that took them like eternity! The little one wanted to go back and the older one wanted to respond to my husband's whistles! In the flurry of activity that ensured, the little one, Ashwin, ended up drenching Aakash with oarfulls of cold water. This photo shows Ashwin being chased by Aakash on the green grassy banks of the river. Ashwin got his due in the car, 30 mins thence.

Tier, Tire and Tyre!

Taken in October 2009 at the Kabini River, Karnataka.

Tired after a 3 day 2 night stay at the Cicada Kabini, my boys after boating in the fog, raced each other  on tyres on the grasslands of the Kabini River banks. Beyond them you can see the Nagarahole' forest. 3 tiers of the forest, shrubs and climbers make the lower tier, short shade loving tree make the middle tier, and tall sun loving trees form the forest canopy.

Gar Firduas ruhe zamin ast, hamin asto hamin asto hamin asto ....
a couplet by the Persian poet Jami, which is inscribed on many other buildings in India and Pakistan...This is what was ringing in my ears as I went up and down the Kabini River.

Lines

Taken on 27 Jan 2010 from the train to Kerala.

I love the lines created... vertical of the tree, horizontal of the bridge, river, mountains and sky, the oblique of the banana plantation and also the curve of the river.

Kabini River

From Boatsafari
The late afternoon sun on the river water caught during a boat safari down the Kabini River. Here in the wild, while we were all starry eyed taking in the succulent offerings of nature, we were rudely brought out of the trance by the sound of a mobile SMS that said "welcome to Wyanad". We were informed that we were now on no-man's waters... Karnataka to the north, Wyanad to the west and Tamil Nadu to the south!
